 The great male vs. female debate! There is a lot of incorrect information on this topic both in books and on the web. If you are just looking for a nice pair of gerbils for pets you probably will never notice a difference between the two. I have never noticed one sex to be easier to handle, easier to tame, etc. The differences between the two really only come in to play when other gerbils are involved. Females are the dominant sex and therefore it is harder to introduce them to new female gerbils or have them live in larger groups. Males tend to be more “gerbil friendly.” That means that if you need to introduce two gerbils it will go easier with two males. Males also are more stable in larger groups than females are. If you are just looking for two cute new friends, I would not let their sex be much of a deciding factor.
