 One important thing to remember is that gerbils are voracious chewers. Anything you put in their cage will get gnawed on like crazy. There are lots of houses, hideaways, and other toys for small animals that are made of plastic. These are not good options for gerbils. Gerbils will most definitely reduce these items to little piles of plastic in no time and if gerbils ingest too much plastic it could be harmful for them. Try to stick to items made from wood, cardboard, or other gerbil safe materials.
